Solanum lycopersicum

Story: This seed was first shared with us by Stef Matthews, an avid home seed saver in 2022. Also known as ‘Black Prince’, it is a large, beef-style, red tomato with green/brown shoulders. The plant stays compact and the fruits are really tasty, with a good sweet/acid balance, even for a larger tomato.

When to sow: February to early April

Requirements: Nutrient-rich soil, regular watering, and a lot of sun.

Harvesting for eating: Typically July/later summer in southern England

When to harvest seed: June - Oct when fruits become fully ripe.

Need to isolate: No

Saving Seed From Tomatoes: Allow the tomatoes to fully ripen on the plant then cut them open and squish the seeds out. Seeds need to be fermented to remove the sticky gel that surround them see our video on seed saving from tomatoes for the technique.
